About Us
We are located in Albany, a beautiful coastal town in the south west of Western Australia. Albany is 4-5 hours drive from Perth and has a population of about 30,000 people.
The Albany Aikido dojo has been in operation since October 2000 when it was started with one instructor, Kim Tomlinson and four beginner students. Over the years our skill base has grown. We now have two additional instructors; Annalise Bennett and Austin Rogerson. We continue to have a steady stream of new students training in Aikido for the first time as well as our up and coming kyu grade students.
Albany Aikido is part of international Aikido association, Aiki-Kai Australia, led by teacher Sugano Shihan. Sugano Shihan is a former live in student of the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba (O’Sensei).
Students who train at the Albany dojo can enjoy all the benefits of being part of Aiki-Kai. This includes the opportunity to attend national Aikido schools, held twice yearly, usually in the eastern states, as well as visits from Aikido Instructors from Perth and other places. Students also receive the Aiki-Kai Australia Magazine to keep them up to date on what aikidoka are up to in the other states.
The Albany Aikido dojo offers a friendly, fun and co-operative learning environment. We also welcome spectators and traveling Aikido students.
Adult’s classes are for males and females over 12 years of age. Children’s classes are for ages 6- 12 years.
